Preparing for Nursery

To support a smooth transition to our nursery, we have created a tried and tested settling-in plan. Our robust settling in process ensures children feel at home quickly and allows parents to be reassured by what happens their child’s first few days of at the nursery.

The Settling In Sessions:

Once your nursery space has been confirmed, a member of our management team will be in touch contact to arrange your child’s settling-in days.

Prior to starting, a key person and a buddy key person will be is assigned to every the child and their family, as well as a ‘buddy’ key person who will offer additional support.

Families will receive a starting letter confirming your child’s key person and settling-in days.

During the first settling-in day, your child’s key person will discuss your child with you to get all the information we need to support them during their time with us. Your child’s key person will also take the time to go through a number of documents with you.

Our Policies and Procedures
The Settling In Sessions:

Our standard provision is two settling-in sessions, increasing in length, to support separation and to introduce the child to the nursery’s daily routine. However, we provide a flexible approach to settling in to meet each child’s individual needs, so if we feel a child needs further sessions, this is something that can be discussed with your child’s key person.

Our Flexible Approach Includes:
  • Increasing the number of sessions and adapting the length of the child’s visit to help the child transition confidently and securely (fees will begin on the identified start date).
  • Allowing a parent or caregiver to stay in the room with the child if this is necessary to support the child’s needs.
  • Contacting a parent to collect the child and shortening the length of the child’s visit if this is in the child’s best interest
  • Arrange home visits if the child is finding separation and transition challenging.
  • Including familiar comfort aids in the child’s resources
  • Providing updates to the parent
  • Holding a detailed handover and sharing of information

With all our many years of experience, we know the smoothest drop offs involve a confident farewell and for parents not to stay too long. Often, the longer the parent stays, the harder it is for the child and their new friends to settle. We will send you photos of the adventures your child gets up to on their first day!
